Pingyao Yamen, built in 1346 under the Yuan Dynasty in 1346, served as the county magistrate’s workplace and residence. The magistrate acted as mayor, judge and chief administrator. Spanning over 300 rooms, this complex features ceremonial gates, courtrooms, meeting halls, living quarters, gardens and a prison.

Lined with intact brick-and-stone buildings, Ming & Qing Street retains authentic dynastic architectural styles. It stands as a prime example of surviving ancient Chinese architecture, sharply contrasting modern construction.


Pingyao Confucian Temple boasts an intricate layout. Follow the paths once trodden by imperial examination top scholars (Zhuangyuan) to experience ancient literati culture.
Throughout the stroll, courtyards, alleyways and old shops vividly recreate Ming and Qing-era Chinese daily life.
