Introduction to the White Horse Temple

As the inaugural Buddhist temple in China, the White Horse Temple can rightfully claim a multitude of “Firsts.” It is home to the first ancient pagoda in China, the Qiyun Pagoda; it provided accommodation for the first Indian monk; it stored the first Chinese Buddhist scriptures; it housed the first scripture - translating venue, the Cool and Clear Terrace; and it welcomed the first Chinese monk, among other distinctions.
