Nestled at the foot of sacred Heng Mountain, the Hanging Temple was carved into steep cliffs around 491 AD in the Northern Wei Dynasty, shortlisted for UNESCO World Heritage status. It perfectly blends ancient Chinese religion, philosophy and brilliant architecture.


With pre-booked tickets, walk cliff-hung wooden paths that feel suspended in mid-air. Over 40 halls and pavilions link via narrow stairs and planks, anchored by beams embedded deep in rock. The temple uniquely houses Buddha, Taoist and Confucian relics together, showcasing ancient China’s inclusive culture.
Its flexible wooden frame and sheltered cliff position help it withstand centuries of quakes and weathering; on-site boards detail its long history. Climb to the top balconies for sweeping views of Jinlong Canyon and Hengshan scenery.
A full visit lasts 1.5–2 hours. Opening hours: 8:00–18:00 (subject to seasonal changes per official notices).
